Dahlia Avalanche

Dahlia ‘Avalanche’ is a majestic decorative dahlia that fully lives up to its name, producing huge, snow-white blooms with a faint lemon tint in the centre. The flowers have a distinctive, architectural look: long, narrow petals curl into delicate tubes and radiate outward in a cascading, star-like form. This variety is prized for its long flowering season and its fresh, bright colour, which stays elegant even in hot summer weather. It is a superb choice for statement plantings, the back of mixed borders, and premium cut-flower arrangements.

The plant grows to a height of 90–120 cm (35–47 inches) and forms a strong, upright bush with sturdy stems and dense, dark-green foliage that beautifully contrasts the white blooms. Flowering runs from July to October, with new buds opening one after another until the first autumn frosts, and the flower heads can reach up to 15–20 cm across. Because of the plant’s height and the size of the blooms, tying stems to a reliable support is recommended. Plant tubers in May after the risk of frost has passed, in a sunny, sheltered position with fertile, well-drained soil, then water regularly, feed through the season, and remove faded blooms to keep the plant at its best.
