Canna Shining Red

Canna ‘Shining Red’ is a classic, tropical-style garden canna with intense, bright red blooms that deliver strong colour impact in summer borders and large patio containers. The fiery shade is ideal for exotic plantings and hot-colour schemes, and it looks especially dramatic alongside dark foliage or golden-yellow companions. With its upright habit and bold leaves, it adds structure and a lush, architectural look from early growth through flowering. This variety is a reliable choice when you want a powerful red focal point for sunny positions.

The plant grows to a height of 90–120 cm (35–47 inches) and produces large, vivid red flowers with a diameter of 10–15 cm. Its bold blooms are carried on sturdy stems above broad ornamental foliage, making it perfect for large pots and tubs, sunny patio displays, and back-of-border planting where a taller tropical silhouette is needed. Flowering typically runs from July to October, and ‘Shining Red’ performs best in full sun in fertile, well-drained soil kept evenly moist, with regular watering and feeding throughout the growing season. Remove spent flower stems to keep the plant tidy and help encourage continued blooming.
