About Canna Lily Carnaval

Novelty! This variety boasts green leaves with yellow edges and orange flowers. The very charm! Flowers bloom from mid-summer to mid-autumn.

Cannas are rhizomatous, herbaceous plants grown for their colorful flowers and rich foliage. They come from Central and South America, China and India.

Appearance

The leaves are wide, flat, with a glossy texture. They appear in long, narrow rolls, and then gradually unfold. Flowers are collected in racemes or panicles. They consist of 3 sepals and 3 petals, which are inconspicuous (they are small and hidden under extravagant stamens). Petals are highly modified stamens or staminodia. The flowers appear at the top of strong vertical stems that stand above the leaves. They are unscented. In cold regions, cannas are grown like dahlias.

This variety grows well in sunny, protected places, in rich, drained soils. Abundant watering is required. The plant can be planted alone or in group plantings. Suitable for shore landing. Timely removal of faded inflorescences contributes to the continuation of flowering. Propagated by division of rhizomes. In temperate zones, cannas should be dug up for the winter. They are stored in a cool, dry garage or basement during the winter, and then planted again in the spring in open ground (after the last frost). The height of the plant is about 200 cm, and the width is 50 cm. Attention! Canna rhizomes are supplied with 2/3 cells.

How to Plant - Canna Lily Carnaval

Canna Lily Carnaval

Guide and tips for planting canna lily bulbs

  • Choose the planting location: Canna bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Canna bulb with the pointy end facing up. Space the bulbs about 36-48 cm apart.

  • Cover the bulbs: Cover the Canna bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.

  • Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Canna bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.

  • Mulch the area: Add a layer of organic mulch around the bulbs to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the bulbs to prevent rot.

  • Fertilize the plants: Canna plants are heavy feeders and require regular fertilization throughout the growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks or use slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting.

  • Monitor the bulbs: Canna bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to sprout, so be patient. Once they sprout, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Canna plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional deadheading to promote continuous blooming.
