Product Description - Dahlia Dixie
A beautiful dahlia from the Melody range you will love! It belongs to the group of ornamental dahlias. Bred in 1999. Originator: Verwer, Gebr. (Netherlands). Distinguished from other dahlias by its compact size, abundance of flowers in bright colours and long-lasting blooms. In a short time it will enliven your garden, patio or terrace.
The basket-shaped inflorescences are large, fully-mauve and almost round. They reach up to 10-15 cm in diameter. They are composed of both lingual and tubular flowers. The reed flowers (petals) are flat, slightly twisted and bent back towards the stem. This makes the inflorescence unusually lush. The tubular flowers are unsightly. The colour of the flowers is bicoloured. The petals are light creamy with violet-purple tips. The leaves are a deep green colour. The bright flowers contrast spectacularly against the background of the foliage. The bush is compact, upright and branchy. The stems are sturdy and densely pubescent. The plant starts to flower in early summer and produces a profusion of flowers until frost. The plant is about 60 cm tall.
Melody Dixie® requires a sunny location. Fertile soils with a slightly acidic or neutral reaction are preferred. Shrubs do not need to be tied. The removal of the faded flowers prolongs flowering. Flowers do not suffer from rain. This variety is particularly good as a cutter as it lasts a long time in bouquets. Dahlias are heat-loving plants. They can withstand temperature drops as low as -5°C frost. For this reason, dig out the tubers for the winter and store them in slightly damp peat, in a dark and cool place. Flowering period: June to October.

How to Plant - Dahlia Dixie
Guide and tips for planting canna lily bulbs

Choose the planting location: Canna bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Canna bulb with the pointy end facing up. Space the bulbs about 36-48 cm apart.

Cover the bulbs: Cover the Canna bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.

Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Canna bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.

Mulch the area: Add a layer of organic mulch around the bulbs to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the bulbs to prevent rot.

Fertilize the plants: Canna plants are heavy feeders and require regular fertilization throughout the growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks or use slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting.

Monitor the bulbs: Canna bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to sprout, so be patient. Once they sprout, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Canna plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional deadheading to promote continuous blooming.
