Product Description - Lily (Lilium) Forever Susan

Lily (Lilium) Forever Susan

(Asiatic lily 'Forever Susan', Lilium 'Forever Susan'). A novelty! Undoubtedly the leader among Asian hybrids. Two-coloured. In the summer sun, the flowers of warm colours facing upwards just glow! They are strikingly coloured: the shiny, plum-black colour of the petals contrasts effectively with the bright orange tips and orange centre. It seems that the flower is tanned in the sun. This lily was bred quite recently, in 2010. The originator: Robert Griesbach. The name means "Forever Susan".

Appearance

Lily Forever Susan (Forever Susan) is a classic Asian lily. It is extremely strong and will grow to about 90-110 cm in height. The flowers reach up to 10-12 cm in diameter. Each of them has three petals and three sepals, which are very similar to each other. Petals and sepals are dense, pointed. The flowers appear at the top of a tall stem. They are collected in inflorescences of several pieces. The nectaries are white, pubescent. Pollen is burgundy in colour.

Leaves are alternate, shiny, dark green in colour. This variety blooms early: from early to mid-summer. It blooms 95 days after planting. It is distinguished by very high frost resistance: it can withstand temperatures down to -40 ° C. Asian hybrids are lilies with high resistance to soil and climatic conditions, well tolerating cold winters. Their important feature is a variety of colours. Here you can see pure lilies, both bright colours and pastel variations, as well as two-tone and variegated lilies. This group includes species found in Asia that were later crossed with each other. Asian hybrids are characterised by early flowering. This group includes lily hybrids that are the most resistant to disease - therefore, they are very much appreciated by flower growers and are widely grown. Lilies from this group of Asian hybrids bloom in late June and July. They prefer sunny positions, but also grow well in partial shade. This variety is ideal for growing in the background and creating borders. Looks beautiful in a cut. Great for planting in containers. Ideal for creating bouquets and floral arrangements. Looks better in group plantings.

Lily bulbs should be planted in spring or autumn in well-prepared soil. It prefers well-drained soils, but will tolerate heavy soils. In addition, the substrate should have an alkaline reaction. Choose a sunny place with moderate humidity. Lily bulbs are usually planted to a depth that is about twice the height of the bulb. Large bulbs are planted to a depth of about 15-20 cm, and small bulbs are planted to a depth of 10-15 cm. The approximate distance between plants during planting should be within 30 cm. With proper care, your efforts should be rewarded with the annual blooming of fabulous flowers. Please note that the number of buds directly depends on the size of the bulb.

How to Plant - Lily (Lilium) Forever Susan

Lily (Lilium) Forever Susan

Planting & Care Instructions

Lilies are elegant summer-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and cut flower arrangements. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for high-quality bulbs.

  • Planting time: Plant the bulbs in spring (March to May) or autumn (September to December). Flowering time generally occurs in summer, from June to July.
  • Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in rich, loose and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
  • Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard lily bulbs, size 14/16 cm (XL), plant approximately 12–15 cm deep and 20–30 cm apart.
  • Watering: Water regularly during active growth and flowering, but avoid waterlogging. Ensure proper drainage to keep the bulbs healthy.
  • Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a rich, well-drained potting mix. Ensure containers are deep enough to accommodate root growth.
  • After flowering: Remove faded flowers to prevent seed formation, but allow the stem and foliage to remain until they naturally turn yellow and die back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the next season.
  • Returning each year: Lilies are winter-hardy perennials that naturally return and bloom year after year when left undisturbed in suitable growing conditions.
