Product Description - Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Flamenco Queen

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Flamenco Queen

A very beautiful, splendidly flowering, perennial bulbous plant. It is native to Africa.

Appearance
The leaves of this flower are linear-tongue-shaped. The flowers are very large with a superb fragrance and sit on rather tall, thickened flower arrows. When the flowers open fully, the petals curl up beautifully and the shape of the flower changes. Large bulbs can produce one to three flower arrows. Each of these arrows usually bears 4 exquisite, cranberry-red flowers, with a bright yellow-green star in the throat.

The flower shape is funnel-shaped, wide-open, with a diameter of 15 to 17 cm. The upper petals are the most intensely coloured, dabbing and mottling in the middle and along the longitudinal veins. Petals are oval, wide, narrowed towards the tips, edged cranberry-red, with slightly wavy edges.

Stamen filaments are light. Pistil light up to the middle. Reddish mottling on light background appears from middle to stigma. Stigma light. The pedicel and flower arrow are green. The reverse side of the flower is light green, with dark red mottling and edging. The flowers of this variety can be both horizontal and drooping.

Amaryllis (Hippeastrum) Flamenco Queen

Guide and tips for planting amaryllis(hippeastrum) bulbs

  • Choose a pot that is at least 4 cm wider than the bulb and has drainage holes in the bottom.

  • Fill the pot with well-draining soil, leaving about 2 cm of space at the top.

  • Place the bulb in the center of the pot, with the pointed end facing up.

  • Cover the bulb with soil, leaving the top one-third of the bulb exposed.

  • Water the soil until it is evenly moist, but not waterlogged.

  • Place the pot in a warm, bright location with indirect sunlight.

  • Water the plant only when the top inch of soil is dry to the touch.

  • As the plant grows, support the stalk with a stake to prevent it from bending or breaking.

  • After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with bright, indirect sunlight.
