Anemone coronaria Bicolor
Anemone coronaria Bicolor - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Anemone coronaria Bicolor
Anemone bicolor. Anemone coronaria bicolor (red-white) (Anemone coronaria 'Bicolor', Anemone coronaria de Caen 'Bicolor'). The anemone or crowned windmill 'Bicolor' introduces a colourful accent to patios and decks. It will also look great in borders. Great for rocky gardens. The flowers are white with a thin red halo and a dark centre. Sometimes the halo can be too wide. Therefore, you will think that the flower is red. This beautiful flower will grow and bloom in abundance year after year!
Features:
- The flowers are single anemones, very similar to poppy inflorescences.
- That is why these plants have another name: Poppy anemone.
- They have a velvety centre framed by stamens, dark or light in colour (depending on the variety).
- The colour of their petals is also varied: dark blue, blue-violet, white, pink, red.
- The leaves are openwork, like a fern.
- Bright petals of anemones create a beautiful contrast on dark green leaves.
- The large, velvety flowers create a dramatic show and are truly magnificent in the garden.
- Anemones are highly valued by florists for their strong stems.
- High frost resistance.
- The height is 20-30 cm and the width is 15 cm.
- Flowering is long - three weeks or more.
- The flowering period is April - May.
- They are very easy to grow. You just need to plant the corms, leave them in the ground, and they will bloom for many years in a row. Let these lovely little flowers add colour and vigour to your garden!
To plant a crown anemone, choose a sunny location. It can grow in partial shade, but its stems are very elongated.
Plant the corms in rich, well-drained soil to a depth of 3-5 cm and at least 10 cm apart. We recommend planting slightly more plants than you need in the garden. Because you will not only want to admire them in the flowerbed, but also to make bouquets from them.
Preparation is required before planting! Sometimes the reason for all failures lies in the failure to observe such an important stage of planting. Crown anemone bulbs are very dry and hard at rest. To "wake them up", before planting, the corms should be placed in paper bags and stored in the refrigerator for six weeks.
After cooling, soak the tubers in warm water overnight. Then keep them in sand for three days. After the long preparatory steps, plant the corms in well-drained, moist potting soil or in the open ground. As a rule, anemone corms are cone-shaped. Therefore, when planting, the "top of the cone" should point downwards and the flat side upwards. You can see root tufts on the flat side. In fact, these are the remains of last year's stems. But still, if in doubt, plant the corm on its side.
Flowering plants do not need to be watered frequently, the soil should be slightly moist. Plant several corms in pots in autumn or spring and enjoy the colourful blooms. Several blooming anemones in different colours can make a charming balcony decoration.
