Product Description - Astilbe (arendsii) Amerika

Astilbe (arendsii) Amerika

This astilbe gives a beautiful softening effect to floral arrangements and bouquets. It can also add colour to shady corners of your garden. It is usually hard to find on sale. But now you have the chance to buy Amerika.

The Arendsa astilbe or false spirea is highly valued by many flower growers due to its hairy tendrils. It is of hybrid origin, with the 'obligatory' participation of the David astilbe. The leaves are compound, twice or thrice pinnate, serrated along the edge, glossy. The foliage provides a great contrast to the flowers. Inflorescences are paniculate, openwork, 20 to 30 cm long. The rhizome is strong, woody. Flowering time is long.

Flowers are light pink and purple. The flowering period is from about June to July. The leaves are green, openworked and about 35 cm long. They bring an air of elegance and grace to your garden. The height of this perennial (adult) is approx. 70 cm. It withstands temperature falls as low as -30 °C. But it is sensitive to frost. This plant is very suitable for gardens. Grows in the penumbra. Requires fertile, humus-rich soil, slightly acidic and moderately moist. And of course moisture-retaining. The recommended planting distance when planting is 33 cm. The planting density is 7-9 pieces per square metre. The planting depth is 5 cm.

This plant is also used to create a border (in a sunnier place). It propagates with difficulty. It can be combined with other plants. As the leaves of the astilbe blossom as early as April, they will make a beautiful backdrop for early spring flowering plants.

How to Plant - Astilbe (arendsii) Amerika

Astilbe (arendsii) Amerika

Guide and tips for planting astilbe plants

  • Choose the planting location: Astilbe plants prefer partial shade to full shade and moist, well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Dig a hole: Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots of the plant. The hole should be slightly wider than the spread of the roots.

  • Place the plant in the hole: Carefully remove the plant from its container and gently loosen any tangled roots. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure the crown of the plant, where the roots meet the stem, is level with the soil surface. Press down firmly to eliminate air pockets.

  • Water the plant: Give the plant a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water the plant regularly to keep the soil evenly moist until the plant becomes established.

  • Mulch the plant: Add a layer of organic mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the plant to prevent rot.

  • Monitor the plant: Keep an eye on the plant's growth and water it regularly as needed. Astilbe plants generally bloom in mid to late summer and benefit from occasional fertilization throughout the growing season
