Planting & Care Instructions

Astilbes are shade-loving perennials famous for their elegant, feathery plumes and attractive fern-like foliage. Perfect for shady borders, woodland gardens, and damp areas, they are fully hardy and return reliably year after year.

• Planting time: Plant bare-root plants in autumn from September to November or in spring from March to May. Flowering time generally occurs from June to August.
• Preparation: Unpack bare roots promptly. If roots appear dry, soak them in lukewarm water for 1–2 hours prior to planting.
• Position & soil: Choose a position in partial to full shade. Plant in moist, humus-rich soil. Never let the soil dry out completely.
• Planting depth & spacing: Spread roots gently and plant with crowns approximately 2–3 cm below the soil surface. Space plants 30–45 cm apart.
• Watering: Water generously after planting. Keep the soil consistently moist for best blooming performance; astilbes do not tolerate dry conditions.
• Growing in containers: Astilbes can be grown in pots with drainage holes, using a moisture-retentive, humus-rich potting mix. Ensure frequent watering.
• After flowering: Cut back spent flower stalks late in the season or leave them for winter interest. Trim away dead foliage in late autumn or early spring.
• Returning each year: Astilbes are fully hardy perennials that thrive in moist shade and return faithfully season after season.

• Spring Flowering Bulbs (tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, etc.) - from 20 September until 1 December.
• Seeds and Garden Tools – all year round
• Roses, Perennials (except peonies), Bushes and other plants in pots - from 1 March until 1 June.
