Product Description - Black Currant Triton
Black Currant 'Triton' (Ribes nigrum) is a vigorous, early-ripening cultivar prized for its large, firm, glossy black berries with a rich, tangy-sweet flavor, perfect for fresh eating, juices, jams, jellies, or desserts. Developed in Sweden as a cross of [(Consort x Wellington) x Stachanovka Altaj], this variety offers high yields and excellent disease resistance. The upright, bushy shrub features dark green, lobed foliage that turns yellow in fall, adding seasonal interest to gardens.
This cultivar grows to a height of 120–180 cm (4–6 feet) with a spread of 90–120 cm (3–4 feet) and produces fruit in early summer (late June to July). Ideal for edible gardens, hedges, or containers, 'Triton' thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil with a pH of 6.0–6.8. Self-fertile and highly resistant to diseases and frost, it’s hardy in USDA Zones 3–7. Netting is recommended to protect berries from birds.
