Product Description - Blueberry Duke
Blueberry ‘Duke’ is a popular early-season blueberry variety valued for its reliable yields and sweet, high-quality berries. The fruit ripens early in summer, extending the blueberry season and providing plenty of berries for fresh eating, desserts, and freezing. With its neat, upright habit and attractive foliage, it’s also a decorative edible shrub for borders and larger patio containers. Because it crops early, it’s an excellent choice for gardeners who want a head start on the berry season.
The plant typically grows to a height of 50 cm (20 inches) and forms a vigorous, upright shrub that produces heavy crops of firm, medium-to-large blueberries. For best performance, grow it in full sun in acidic, well-drained soil (ericaceous conditions) and keep the root zone evenly moist; mulching with pine bark or other acidic organic matter helps maintain the right pH and steady moisture. Planting alongside another compatible blueberry variety can improve pollination and increase yields, and annual pruning in late winter supports strong new growth and consistent fruiting.
