Appearance

The large-bulb plant krinum from the amaryllis genus Powellii is grown both in container culture and in open ground. In the southern regions of the country, it can winter in the ground under a well-arranged preventive shelter. But more often bulbs are dug up for the winter and stored at low positive temperatures. Krinum forms a bulb from 15 to 25 cm. At a young age, they have a slightly tubular shape. The peduncle of the plant is gigantic, about 1 m long. Whole inflorescences of charming pink miniature lilies are tied on it. The Powellii variety is planted in the soil in April, and already in July it begins its long, more than one and a half month magical flowering. This is a real exotic in our gardens. After flowering, the bulb is dug up and sent to rest after the leaves turn yellow.
