The colourful George Davison variety of crocosmia is prized for its eye-catching yellow flowers which bloom for a long time, visible from any corner of the garden. It is a kind of miniature gladiolus with a spike-like type of inflorescence. The plant looks well in border plantings, in mixborders and next to lilies, gardenias, ornamental grasses and brushwood.
George Davison can be planted outdoors in April after the warmth has stabilised. It will overwinter successfully in the open ground with additional cover. It prefers sunny, open areas. Without sunshine, flowering is not possible. In the summer heat, regular moistening of the root area after the ground has dried out since the previous watering is required. To ensure that the inflorescences are large and in full bloom, a complex fertiliser should be applied from April until the flowering phase.
