Product Description - Crocosmia George Davison (small-flowering)

Crocosmia George Davison (small-flowering)
  • Height: 50-60 cm
  • Flower diameter: 4 cm
  • Flowering period: July-August
  • Flower colour: yellow

The bright variety of crocosmia George Davison is valued for its long flowering with yellow, spectacular inflorescences that are visible from any corner of the garden. This is a kind of miniature gladiolus with a spike-shaped inflorescence. The plant looks good in a border planting, a mixborder, next to daylilies, ornamental cereals.

George Davison is planted outdoors in April after the onset of stable heat. It successfully winters outdoors with additional shelter. It prefers sunny, open areas. Flowering is not possible without sun. In the summer heat, it necessarily requires regular moistening in the root zone, after it has completely dried out after the previous watering.

For the inflorescences to form large and fully bloom, it is necessary to apply complex fertilisers from April until the flowering phase.

How to Plant - Crocosmia George Davison (small-flowering)

Guide and tips for planting Gladiolus bulbs

  • Choose the planting location: Gladiolus bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Gladiolus bulb with the pointed end facing up. Space the bulbs about 12-24 cm apart.

  • Cover the bulbs: Cover the Gladiolus bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.

  • Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Gladiolus bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.

  • Stake the plants: Gladiolus plants can grow tall and may need to be staked for support. Insert stakes into the ground near the bulbs before they start growing to avoid damaging the plant later on.

  • Monitor the bulbs: Gladiolus bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to emerge from the soil, so be patient. Once they emerge, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Gladiolus plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional fertilization throughout the growing season.
