Crocosmia Small Flowering crocosmiiflora Fire King . New! Crocosmia's small flowering variety, 'Fire King,' will add bright colors to your garden. Its name sounds in translation as "Fire King." And it lives up to its name. The gracefully convex stems have many tubular orange flowers that mature to an intense red. Attractive green foliage creates a contrast to the flowers. It blooms in August-September.
Small-flowered crocosmia is a colorful exotic! It will delight with its flowering in mid-late summer. It belongs to the Crocosmia Small Flowering Collection series.
Crocosmia Small Flowering Collection includes other equally popular varieties of crocosmia or montbretia. These are Fire King (red flowers), Red King (with orange-red flowers), and Carmine Brilliant (red-yellow flowers). In addition, several named varieties are now available in various hot colors. Plant height is 60-75 cm, and width is 10-30 cm. The growth rate is medium.
Features of the species:
Crocosmia, or Montbretia, or Japanese gladiolus, is a tuberous, herbaceous, perennial plant. The corm is small and covered with reticulate scales. Flowers of 3-5 pcs. are collected in spectacular inflorescences. Flowers are up to 3-4 cm in diameter. During flowering, this plant is gorgeous. Its bright flowers stand for a long time in the cut. But it would be best if you cut them at the second bud's blooming stage. After that, it will begin to grow more intensively corms. The plant has a thin, straight stem with light green, narrowly-obvious upright leaves. Crocosmia inflorescences can be dried for winter bouquets. When dried, they retain their shape and color. It is a frost-resistant plant; however, it should be stored like a gladiolus in winter.
Prefers moist but well-drained soil in full sun. Plant the corms (bulbs) in spring about 8-10 cm deep and 10-15 cm apart.

Guide and tips for planting Gladiolus bulbs

Choose the planting location: Gladiolus bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.
