The flowers are purple, blue, white, yellow and mixed. The stigmas are bright orange. The flowers are characterised by iridescence, contrasting strokes and veins.

Large-flowered crocuses or Dutch hybrids bloom in mid-spring. Another name: spring saffron. The most spectacular among crocuses. They grow up to 10-12 cm in height. The flowers are directed upwards, goblet-shaped, with six rounded petals. The leaves are narrow, thin, shiny, deep green in colour with a longitudinal white stripe. The leaves begin to grow from the bulb during flowering and fully develop after flowering. Flowering usually lasts about 2-3 weeks.

Large-flowered crocus is ideal for creating bright spots in a sunny shrub border between deciduous shrubs. It is also planted in rock gardens and flower beds. It requires spring sun to accumulate enough food and form a new flower by autumn. Once the foliage is mature, shade is not a problem for the plant, so choose your crocus companions carefully. Grow this crocus in well-drained soils with plenty of organic matter. The planting depth is 8 cm (about three corm heights), the distance between the corms when planting is 12 cm. Planting density: about 45 corms per 1 sq.m. Plants are hardy: do not require shelter for the winter. Propagate by dividing the overgrown nests of corms in the autumn. One varietal corn produces about three children per year. Daughter corms are formed on top of the mother corms.
