Product Description - Dahlia Art Deco

Dahlia Art Deco

Dahlia Gallery Art Deco (Dahlia hybrid 'Gallery Art Deco', Decorative Dahlia 'Gallery Art Deco'). New! This variety belongs to the group of Decorative Dahlias. It is a bright representative of the Gallery series. It attracts with spectacular flowers in shades of apricot and burgundy. It was bred in 1997. Originator: Verwer, Gebr. (Netherlands). The flowers of this variety enchant at first sight! "Geleri Art Deco" combines the beauty of the exceptional shape of multicoloured inflorescences with the free branching of the plant. The flowers contrast effectively with the deeply serrated leaves of dark green colour. Perfection itself! Dahlia Gallery Art Deco is taller than other plants in the Gallery series. It grows up to a height of 60 cm. Features of the variety: compact plant; early, abundant and continuous flowering; fast growth rates; large decorative inflorescences, about 11 cm in diameter; unpretentiousness and easy care.

The new variety is the product of a planned breeding programme carried out by a breeder in Liss, the Netherlands. The aim of the breeding programme is to create compact cultivar dahlias that bloom early and profusely, with colourful inflorescences and good longevity.

The first buds are usually formed in late June and July and bloom until frost - sometimes until October-November. The flowers, or rather, the inflorescences-baskets, are miniature (Miniature): their size is about 10-11 cm in diameter. They are completely double, consisting of reed and tubular flowers. The reed flowers are flat, slightly twisted and bent towards the stem. This makes the inflorescence unusually lush. Tubular flowers are inconspicuous. The buds are rounded and sometimes pointed, reddish in colour. The foliage is elliptical, pointed, with a smooth surface. Their length is 10 and 18 cm, and width: about 10 cm. The bush is short in stature, erect, branched, with strong stems densely covered with leaves. The flowers do not suffer from rain. They are especially good for cutting, as they stand for a long time in bouquets. The bush does not need to be tied up. This variety produces many large flowers for a long time, and it is an ideal choice for containers.

Dahlia Gallery Art Deco is also ideal for growing in flower beds and borders. It is used for cutting. Like all dahlias, it requires a sunny to slightly shaded location with protection from winds. The soil should be waterproof, moderately moist, and rich in nutrients. It should also be slightly acidic or neutral in reaction. Sprouted dahlia tubers should be planted in the garden in May, after the threat of return frosts has passed. The distance between plants when planting is 30 cm. Removing faded flowers prolongs flowering. Sprouted tubers are planted in the garden in May, after the threat of return frosts has passed. Removing faded flowers prolongs flowering. This plant is suitable for 12 to 15 cm containers. If you decide to buy Geleri dahlias, the Florium online store will help you do it very easily and conveniently.

How to Plant - Dahlia Art Deco

Dahlia Art Deco

Guide and tips for planting canna lily bulbs

  • Choose the planting location: Canna bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Canna bulb with the pointy end facing up. Space the bulbs about 36-48 cm apart.

  • Cover the bulbs: Cover the Canna bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.

  • Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Canna bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.

  • Mulch the area: Add a layer of organic mulch around the bulbs to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the bulbs to prevent rot.

  • Fertilize the plants: Canna plants are heavy feeders and require regular fertilization throughout the growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks or use slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting.

  • Monitor the bulbs: Canna bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to sprout, so be patient. Once they sprout, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Canna plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional deadheading to promote continuous blooming.
