Product Description - Dahlia Marta

Dahlia Marta

An enchanting dahlia, one of the most popular of the Semi-cactus dahlia group (group 9). Although it is sometimes mistakenly referred to as a cactus dahlia. She was introduced in 1994. Originator: Simon, Bob (USA). The big flower size (Large) and the beautiful colours of the flowers are a great advantage of this dahlia. They also boast a long flowering period, which will last from the formation of the first buds, usually in late June/early July, until frost. The flowers, or rather inflorescences, are about the size of a table plate, varying from 20 to 25cm in diameter. They are therefore ideal for cuttings. It also looks good in the garden, in flowerbeds and borders, in single and group plantings.

Its flowers are very colourful. The flowers are terry-shaped and have a warm colour: The petals are red-yellow with a yellow centre. This dahlia will therefore add an exotic touch to any planting scheme. The inflorescence consists of lingual and tubular flowers. The tubular flowers are small and unsightly. The reed flowers are fairly broad at the base and large. The tips are pointed. They are also slightly angled, curled up into a tube at half (or less) their length and spreading out from the centre of the flower in all directions. The inflorescences of this dahlia are very similar to those of cacti and ornamental dahlias.

This variety is quite easy to grow and care for. It looks good in single or group plantings and is also ideal for cuttings. It also looks great in bouquets and will last a long time in a vase. The location is sunny or slightly shaded. Soils will need to be loose and rich, with a slightly acidic or neutral reaction. This is a tall dahlia. Dahlia can reach a height of 100 cm and a width of 60 cm.

How to Plant - Dahlia Marta

Guide and tips for planting canna lily bulbs

  • Choose the planting location: Canna bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Canna bulb with the pointy end facing up. Space the bulbs about 36-48 cm apart.

  • Cover the bulbs: Cover the Canna bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.

  • Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Canna bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.

  • Mulch the area: Add a layer of organic mulch around the bulbs to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the bulbs to prevent rot.

  • Fertilize the plants: Canna plants are heavy feeders and require regular fertilization throughout the growing season. Apply a balanced fertilizer every 4-6 weeks or use slow-release fertilizer at the time of planting.

  • Monitor the bulbs: Canna bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to sprout, so be patient. Once they sprout, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Canna plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional deadheading to promote continuous blooming.
