Eranthis cilicica - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland

Eranthis cilicica (Eranthis cilicica, Eranthis hyemalis). Other names: Winter aconite. Eranthis cilicica is a perennial herbaceous plant that belongs to the Buttercup family. It is an ephemeroid. It thrives in the wild in Turkey (in the Cilicia region), Greece and Asia Minor. Its habitat is deciduous forests.

It is a short plant with bright flowers that is one of the first to bloom. It grows up to a height of only 10 cm. You will definitely like it! Bright yellow flowers appear in February, among the first to bloom. They are small, cup-shaped, have six petals and a "green collar" of stem leaves. Their colour is deep yellow, sometimes with an orange tint. The size of the flower is more than 3 cm in diameter. The flowers open in clear weather, and in cloudy weather and at night they fold. The leaves are medium-sized, openwork, strongly or palmately dissected, bronze in colour. They emerge in early spring from an underground "tuber" along with the flowers or after they have faded. They are collected in basal rosettes and form neat, squat clumps. The flowering period is usually from late April to June.

Erantis cilicianus grows best in partial shade. It also feels good in open sunny areas. Does not like transplants. It is suitable for group planting in flower beds, rock gardens, rockeries, under tree crowns and for creating borders. Looks good in a company with other low-growing spring-flowering plants. It is a frost-resistant plant. Flowering time is early spring.
