Erythronium Purple King
Erythronium Purple King - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Erythronium Purple King
Erythronium dens-canis 'Purple King' (Erythronium dens-canis 'Purple King'). Other names: candida, dog's tooth, European erythronium. It is a perennial bulbous plant that belongs to the lily family. It is an ephemeroid. It was bred in 1937. The name of the variety is translated as "Purple King".
It is a short plant with bright flowers that resemble cyclamen flowers. It grows up to a height of only 10-15 cm. You will definitely like it!
Bright flowers appear in mid-April. They are single, drooping, and have six petals up to 8 cm long (which are bent backwards). Their colour is amazing - purple-violet petals, with brown spots and stripes (in the centre) and a white throat. One peduncle forms from 1 to 8 flowers. Flowering is long, up to three weeks. The leaves are no less decorative than the flowers. They are medium-sized (8-15 cm long), broadly lanceolate with pointed ends, and fit snugly to the bud. The leaves are coloured reddish-brown and green, forming a marbled pattern. They emerge in early spring from an underground bulb.
Erythronium grows best in partial shade. It feels good in open sunny areas and in the shade. Loves humid places. It is suitable for group planting in flower beds, rock gardens, rockeries, under tree crowns and for creating borders. Looks good in a company with other low-growing spring-flowering plants. Looks better in groups of 5-15 pieces (forms a continuous carpet). It grows in one place for up to 8 years. It is a frost-resistant plant. Flowering time is April - May. This variety was awarded the TGA-BC award (1960).
