Galtonia candicans - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland

Galtonia is a perennial, tall bulbous plant. It is also popularly called African hyacinth. It is indeed quite similar to hyacinth, the only difference is in size. The flowers are tubular-funnel-shaped, white, fragrant, bell-like, up to 6 cm long and 3 cm in diameter. At the top of the peduncle, the flowers are collected in loose inflorescences. Flowering begins in August or September, forming generous ovaries, and lasts until frost. It is best to remove them in good time, as you will be able to retain more nutrients that are needed to build the bulb. After all, the seeds of galtonia usually do not ripen before frost, and the fruits only spoil the appearance of the entire inflorescence. The inflorescence grows up to 70 cm in height per season. Delicate, white flowers, similar to bells, open very beautifully at the very top. It looks as if a giant hyacinth has bloomed. Galtonias are unpretentious - it is enough to provide maximum sunshine and add mineral fertilisers to the soil when planting. Light frosts will not harm this plant, but when the flowers and leaves are damaged by frost, you need to dig up the bulbs and store them indoors.
