The spectacular Black Sea Gladiolus forms long flower stems with fantastically beautiful, large buds in deep maroon, almost black. This is a real favourite for the summer bed and for cutting flowers for sale. The tall spike-like flower stalks hold up to 12 large, alternating buds.
Plant the bulbs that have sprouted in a moist substrate into the open ground or greenhouse when the soil is well heated to +12°C or higher. Plant in a sunny, wind-protected area with a well-drained and fertilized soil composition. The Black Sea variety responds very well to moderate watering and regular fertilizing every 10 days. This will ensure that the spike reaches its stated size and will have large buds. After flowering, stop watering the bulbs to prepare them for their winter dormancy. Dig them up in October and store them in a cool, dry place.

How to Plant - Gladiolus BLACK SEA
Guide and tips for planting Gladiolus bulbs

Choose the planting location: Gladiolus bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Gladiolus bulb with the pointed end facing up. Space the bulbs about 12-24 cm apart.

Cover the bulbs: Cover the Gladiolus bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.
