Gladiolus Black Star
Gladiolus Black Star - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Gladiolus Black Star
Gladiolus black star is a beautiful, unpretentious perennial tuberous plant of the Iris family. The variety is large-flowered. The height of the gladiolus is 90-110 cm. The stems of the plant are strong, erect, fleshy and covered with elongated, thin, lanceolate, green leaves (gladiolus stems need to be tied up). The flowers are large (11-14 cm in diameter), dark red or burgundy, velvety. The petals are slightly corrugated. The flowers are sessile with a simple funnel-shaped perianth of six unequal lobes, fused by bases, of different sizes and shapes. Flowers of 10-15 pcs. are collected in medium-dense racemose inflorescences, reaching 60-70 cm in length. Flowering period - July-September (flowering time depends on the time of planting the bulbs). Planting time for corms is April-June.
The corm is round, renewed annually, and is covered with membranous scales. It prefers fertile, organic-rich, loosened and moderately moist soil. This variety of gladioli is predominantly sun-loving, but also tolerates light partial shade. Gladioli should be protected from gusts of wind. The plant variety is practically not affected by garden diseases and pests. For the winter period, it is recommended to dig up the corms and store them in a dry, dark place until spring. Cut stems retain their decorative effect for a long time. Gladioli are versatile plants; they are suitable both for decorating the garden (flower beds, flower beds) and for cutting.

How to Plant - Gladiolus Black Star
Guide and tips for planting Gladiolus bulbs
-
Choose the planting location: Gladiolus bulbs prefer full sun and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.
-
Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.
-
Plant the bulbs: Dig a hole that is about 8-12 cm deep and place the Gladiolus bulb with the pointed end facing up. Space the bulbs about 12-24 cm apart.
-
Cover the bulbs: Cover the Gladiolus bulbs with soil and gently press down to remove air pockets. Make sure the soil level is even with the surrounding soil.
-
Water the bulbs: Give the bulbs a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around them. Gladiolus bulbs prefer consistently moist soil, so water them regularly, but avoid over-watering as this can cause rot.
-
Stake the plants: Gladiolus plants can grow tall and may need to be staked for support. Insert stakes into the ground near the bulbs before they start growing to avoid damaging the plant later on.
-
Monitor the bulbs: Gladiolus bulbs typically take about 2-3 weeks to emerge from the soil, so be patient. Once they emerge, water and fertilize regularly to encourage healthy growth. Gladiolus plants can bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional fertilization throughout the growing season.
