Product Description - Hosta Fire and Ice

Hosta Fire and Ice

Hosta 'Fire and Ice' is a captivating perennial known for its striking bicolor foliage. The heart-shaped leaves feature a bright white center with vibrant green margins, creating a dramatic contrast that brightens shady garden spots. The leaves are thick, corrugated, and have a smooth texture, making them resistant to slugs and other pests.

This variety reaches a height of 45–60 cm and spreads 75–100 cm, forming a dense, attractive mound. In mid to late summer (July–August), it produces tall scapes with lavender, funnel-shaped flowers that attract hummingbirds and bees. Hosta 'Fire and Ice' thrives in partial to full shade and prefers moist, well-drained, fertile soil, making it an excellent choice for shaded borders, woodland gardens, or as a ground cover.

How to Plant - Hosta Fire and Ice

Hosta Fire and Ice

Guide and tips for planting Hosta Bare-Root Plants

  • Choose the planting location: Hosta plants prefer partial shade to full shade and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Soak the Bare-Root Plants: Soak the Hosta Bare-Root Plants in water for at least an hour before planting. This will help to hydrate the roots and encourage healthy growth.

  • Dig a hole: Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots of the plant. The hole should be slightly wider than the spread of the roots.

  • Place the plant in the hole: Carefully remove the Hosta Bare-Root Plant from its packaging and gently spread out the roots. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure the crown of the plant, where the roots meet the stem, is level with the soil surface. Press down firmly to eliminate air pockets.

  • Water the plant: Give the plant a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water the plant regularly to keep the soil evenly moist until the plant becomes established.

  • Mulch the plant: Add a layer of organic mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the plant to prevent rot.

  • Monitor the plant: Keep an eye on the plant's growth and water it regularly as needed. Hosta plants generally bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional fertilization throughout the growing season.
