Hosta First Frost
Hosta First Frost - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Hosta First Frost
One of the notable golden-edged varieties that belongs to the Medium (M) group of hostas. Of hybrid origin. It was bred quite recently, in 2002. Originator: Scolnik/Solberg. The name is translated as 'First Frost'. And it really lives up to its name. It is a perennial which is appreciated for its showy leaves and beautiful flowers. It can take its rightful place in a shady corner of your garden! The danai hosta forms lush clumps of leaves. The leaves are medium-sized, oblong-cordate, veined, with sharp tips. They change colour throughout the season from deep blue-green with a golden border to dark green with a creamy white border. Leaf size is about 18 cm long and 13 cm wide. The bush is perfectly shaped and large and retains its decorativeness throughout the period.
In midsummer, leafless, flat flower stalks with brush-like inflorescences appear. The flowers in them are numerous, bell-like. The flowers are pale lavender in colour. This variety blooms for a fairly long time, about 3-4 weeks. It is frost-resistant to -29 °C.

How to Plant - Hosta First Frost
Guide and tips for planting Hosta Bare-Root Plants
-
Choose the planting location: Hosta plants prefer partial shade to full shade and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.
-
Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.
-
Soak the Bare-Root Plants: Soak the Hosta Bare-Root Plants in water for at least an hour before planting. This will help to hydrate the roots and encourage healthy growth.
-
Dig a hole: Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots of the plant. The hole should be slightly wider than the spread of the roots.
-
Place the plant in the hole: Carefully remove the Hosta Bare-Root Plant from its packaging and gently spread out the roots. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure the crown of the plant, where the roots meet the stem, is level with the soil surface. Press down firmly to eliminate air pockets.
-
Water the plant: Give the plant a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water the plant regularly to keep the soil evenly moist until the plant becomes established.
-
Mulch the plant: Add a layer of organic mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the plant to prevent rot.
-
Monitor the plant: Keep an eye on the plant's growth and water it regularly as needed. Hosta plants generally bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional fertilization throughout the growing season.
