'Halcyon' originated as a chimeric mutation of Hosta H. Tardiana Group. It is a unique plant because of its amazingly coloured leaves. They have an exceptional deep blue-green colour which lasts the whole season.
It is a perennial plant which is appreciated not only for its decorative leaves but also for its beautiful flowers. It can take its rightful place in a shaded corner of your garden! This hosta forms lush clumps of leaves. The leaves are medium-sized, textured, lanceolate with sharp tips, veined (11 pairs of veins), dense and very succulent. Leaf size: 10 cm long and 8 cm wide. The leaves are smooth on the top, but the underside is covered with a lily blotch. The bush is perfectly shaped, compact, almost rounded and has an unparalleled appearance. The growth rate is medium.
In July, smooth flower stalks emerge with brush-like inflorescences. The flowers are numerous, bell-like. The flowers are pale purple in colour. Flowers without scent. Blossoms last about 3-4 weeks. Resistance to diseases and pests is medium. Frost resistance is high - it withstands up to -40 °C. The hosta completely goes into a dormant state in autumn. The foliage dies off and can be removed at any time until mid-spring.
'Halcyon' grows well on acidic loamy soils. Although hostas produce flowers, they are mainly grown for their highly ornamental foliage. These hardy plants can be grown in the shade of deep-rooted trees, as groundcover plants, in borders, or even next to water. They grow best in moist but well-drained soils. Prefer penumbra or shade with protection from cold winds. They do not like to be confined. Can also be grown in mixed containers and tubs. Accompany them with heijra, carnations, hellebores, astilbe and ornamental grasses. This variety will also survive the sun. The hosta can grow up to 10 years in one place (if the rhizomes are not exposed). Flowering time: mid to late summer. Plant height is about 55 cm and width 30 cm. Supplied in plastic containers (0.5 litres).
