Product Description - Hosta Victory

Hosta Victory

A voluminous bicolour shrub with beautiful foliage, this variety is highly prized by gardeners. Its presence will liven up any bed and add a tropical touch to the plant composition.

Looks and scent
The Victoria hosta looks like a herbaceous bouquet of large decorative leaves. They show their leaf structure very well and are very pretty to look at. The leaves are voluminous, fleshy, heart-shaped and set on stout petioles. They are coloured a lush green with a yellow-cream stripe around the edge. In the autumn the stripe turns almost white. The perennial is 75 cm or taller, depending on the nitrogen content of the soil. The shrub is 120 cm wide.

In summer tall arrows appear above the grassy cap of the hosta, flanked by bell-shaped flowers. Their petals are coloured white. The seedling may not produce flower arrows in the year of planting, but from the age of three the number of arrows per plant varies from 7 to 15.

The Victory variety is known for its excellent resistance to sub-zero temperatures and will therefore not be afraid of the harshest winters.

It has a frost resistance of -20˚C.

Height and width of the shrub: 75/120 cm.

Flower colour: white.

Leaf colour: green with a creamy border.

Flowering time: last decade of July to August.

How to Plant - Hosta Victory

Guide and tips for planting Hosta Bare-Root Plants

  • Choose the planting location: Hosta plants prefer partial shade to full shade and well-drained soil. Avoid planting in areas with standing water or where the soil remains soggy after rainfall.

  • Prepare the soil: Loosen the soil and remove any weeds or debris from the planting area. Amend the soil with compost or organic matter to improve the soil's fertility and drainage.

  • Soak the Bare-Root Plants: Soak the Hosta Bare-Root Plants in water for at least an hour before planting. This will help to hydrate the roots and encourage healthy growth.

  • Dig a hole: Dig a hole deep enough to accommodate the roots of the plant. The hole should be slightly wider than the spread of the roots.

  • Place the plant in the hole: Carefully remove the Hosta Bare-Root Plant from its packaging and gently spread out the roots. Place the plant in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure the crown of the plant, where the roots meet the stem, is level with the soil surface. Press down firmly to eliminate air pockets.

  • Water the plant: Give the plant a thorough watering after planting to settle the soil around the roots. Continue to water the plant regularly to keep the soil evenly moist until the plant becomes established.

  • Mulch the plant: Add a layer of organic mulch around the plant to help retain moisture and suppress weed growth. Keep the mulch a few inches away from the base of the plant to prevent rot.

  • Monitor the plant: Keep an eye on the plant's growth and water it regularly as needed. Hosta plants generally bloom in mid to late summer and may require occasional fertilization throughout the growing season.
