Hyacinth (double flowering) Manhattan
Hyacinth (double flowering) Manhattan - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Hyacinth (double flowering) Manhattan
Terry hyacinth Manhattan (Hyacinthus orientalis 'Manhattan', Dutch Hyacinth 'Manhattan'). New! This is an oriental or oriental hyacinth with large double flowers and a sweet scent. Another name: Dutch hyacinth. It belongs to the mid-early varieties. It is an incredibly beautiful flower. To be honest, the photos do not do it justice. You have to see it for yourself! It grows up to 30 cm in height. The inflorescence is cylindrical, reaching a height of 10-15 cm. The leaves are grooved, smooth, with a characteristic shine, bright green, collected in basal rosettes of 9 pieces. The bulb is large, round-oval, membranous. It has double, numerous (up to 35-50 pieces), star-shaped flowers, collected in moderately dense spike-shaped inflorescences. Their colour will captivate you: flowers in shades of blue and purple. They consist of more petals than non-double hyacinths. The outer petals are longer than the inner ones. The centre of each petal is outlined with a darker stripe. Therefore, you will think that the petals have a white border. The size of the flower is 3.5-4 cm in diameter, and the same or slightly longer. The flowers have a strong and persistent sweet aroma. They do not lose their decorative effect for a long time. The flowering period is April-May.
Hyacinths include up to thirty species that grow mainly in Mediterranean countries. The most famous species is the oriental hyacinth. It grows in Syria and Lebanon, southern Turkey and Greece, and Dalmatia, where it blooms from early spring. The colour blue is a symbol of calmness, tranquillity and contemplation. It visually brings a sense of space. The perception of blue varies depending on the degree of illumination. So in the shade, partial shade and at dusk, it is deep blue, and in good light, it seems purple. Blue flowers are the most scarce plants. That is why they are the most popular in every flower garden. Flowers in blue tones combine with themselves, and are also excellent companions to white, yellow, orange, and red plants. A perfect duet of blue and green tones. Compact blue hyacinths will add a special touch to a spring flower bed. Blue hyacinths are the first to bloom, and lilac hyacinths are the last to bloom!
The Manhattan hyacinth is a great addition to any garden. It is ideal for forcing. It is ideal for growing outdoors, for early forcing indoors and for creating bouquets. It looks impressive in spring flower beds, borders and containers. It is also used in perfumery. It likes sunny places or partial shade, with protection from strong winds. It requires loose, sandy loamy soil with good drainage. Planting time: September-October. Planting depth: 10-12 cm. For winter, the plant should be covered with a layer of mulch 5-10 cm thick. To ensure a good-looking garden, plant a large number of bulbous plants with overlapping flowering times. Since hyacinth grows very deeply into the ground, it refuses to bloom without digging and replanting.
Dig up the bulbs, dry them in the shade in the air (under a canopy for 2 days). Then sort them out, calibrate them for size and bring them into storage. Sick bulbs are discarded. The correct storage will determine whether the bulb will bloom in the spring. It is during storage that inflorescences form in the bulbs. And a frequent reason for the lack of flowers or ugly, underdeveloped inflorescences is non-compliance with storage rules. On average, the storage period lasts from 90 to 100 days. During this time, keep an eye on the humidity so that the bulbs do not dry out. Ventilate the room all the time.
