How to Plant - Hyacinth Oriental Collection
Planting & Care Instructions
Hyacinths are hardy spring-flowering bulbs valued for their dense, highly fragrant flower spikes. They are ideal for borders, flower beds, pots, balcony boxes and indoor forcing in hyacinth glasses.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Hyacinths generally flower from April to May, depending on the variety and local climate.
- Position & soil: Choose a position in full sun or partial shade. Plant in rich, loose and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For hyacinth bulbs, size 15/16 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart.
- Watering: Water lightly after planting to settle the soil. During active growth, keep the soil moderately moist when necessary, but avoid waterlogging.
- Growing in pots & forcing: Use containers with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. For forcing in a hyacinth glass, position the bulb above the water so that the base of the bulb does not remain submerged.
- After flowering: Remove faded flower spikes, but leave the foliage until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Hyacinths can return and flower in following years when grown in suitable conditions. Over time, flower spikes may become slightly smaller or less dense than in the first season.

- Summer Flowering Bulbs (dahlias, gladioli, begonias, etc.) - from 23 March until 1 July.
- Spring Flowering Bulbs (tulips, hyacinths, daffodils, etc.) - from 20 September until 1 December.
- Seeds and Garden Tools – all year round
- Roses, Perennials (except peonies), Bushes and other plants in pots - from 1 March until 1 June.
