Hydrangea (Hortensia) Groundbreaker Blush
Size chart
Product Description - Hydrangea (Hortensia) Groundbreaker Blush
Hydrangea (Hortensia) 'Blush' is a breathtaking deciduous shrub celebrated for its magnificent, cone-shaped flower panicles that undergo a stunning colour transformation. Opening as a soft, creamy white in mid-summer, the delicate florets gracefully mature into a rich, antique rosy-blush and deep pink as the season progresses. The intricate mix of sterile and fertile florets gives the large blooms a beautiful, lacy texture. This captivating display brings a romantic, vintage charm to the landscape, making it an outstanding focal point for garden borders, cottage gardens, or elegant dried floral arrangements.
This vigorous and hardy shrub typically reaches a height of 150–200 cm (60–80 inches), forming a well-branched, upright habit. The sturdy stems are strong enough to support the large, 20–30 cm (8–12 inches) flower panicles without drooping, even after heavy summer showers. Set against textured, dark green foliage, the spectacular blooms last well into autumn and provide excellent winter interest if left on the plant. 'Blush' is highly adaptable and easy to grow, thriving in full sun to partial shade while offering a reliable, low-maintenance performance year after year.

How to Plant - Hydrangea (Hortensia) Groundbreaker Blush
Planting & Care Instructions
Hortensias feature elegant blooms that are ideal for borders, pots, and as stunning cut flowers. They are winter-hardy shrubs and, when planted in suitable conditions, will return and flower yearly.
- Planting time: Plant in autumn, from September to December. Hortensias generally bloom from June to September, providing beautiful summer color.
- Position & soil: Choose a position in part shade to full sun. Plant in moist, well-drained soil to ensure healthy root development.
- Planting depth & spacing: Dig a hole wide enough for the root system. Plant approximately 5–8 cm deep and space the plants 80–120 cm apart to allow them enough room to spread.
- Watering: Water once after planting to settle the soil well. During active growth, keep the soil just lightly moist, but avoid waterlogging.
- Growing in containers: Use large pots with drainage holes and a moist, well-drained potting mix. Container-grown hortensias may need more frequent watering during the blooming season.
- After flowering: You can leave the faded blooms on the plant through winter to provide frost protection for new buds, or trim them back depending on the variety's specific pruning needs.
- Returning each year: Because they are winter-hardy, hortensias will return yearly. With proper care and suitable conditions, they will grow into robust shrubs with abundant flowers each season.
