Product Description - Hydrangea (Hortensia) Little Lime

Hydrangea (Hortensia) Little Lime

Hydrangea Little Lime (Hydrangea paniculata 'Little Lime,' Hydrangea paniculata 'Jane' Little Lime). This variety is better known as Hydrangea paniculata 'Jane.' It is a sport of hydrangea 'Limelight.' It will decorate your garden singly or in group plantings. It looks beautiful on the lawn, composed of conifers, holly, and rhododendrons. This variety was obtained as a result of free pollination in the planned breeding program, which took place in 2005 in Grand Haven (Michigan). Its parents are Hydrangea paniculata, 'Limelight Variegated' (female parent), and an unknown variety of hydrangea paniculata (male parent).

Appearance.

This beautiful plant will not leave you indifferent, thanks to fluffy inflorescences that resemble cotton candy. The bush will grow only up to 0.9-1.2 m, and its width reaches about 1.5 m. The stems are dark red, straight, and rigid. They do not droop under the weight of inflorescences but proudly look up. Huge inflorescences - panicles reach impressive sizes: up to 13 cm in height and 10 cm in width. They are conical in shape. In the inflorescences, sterile flowers change their color. They appear in shades of soft, light green. But as they ripen, their color changes to white and light pink. And in autumn, the flowers can become burgundy. The color of white hydrangeas is also affected by lighting. In full sun, flowers with red markings, and in partial shade - with green. Dry inflorescences often decorate the plant throughout the winter. Leaves fall off for the winter. The growth rate could be faster.

  • Bush height: up to 0.9 - 1.2 m
  • Bush width: about 1.5 m
  • Flowering period: July - September

This is a fully hardy plant that grows best in full sun or partial shade. It prefers fertile soil, rich in humus, slightly moist, and somewhat acidic. It is also ideal for cutting. Their fresh and dried flowers make beautiful bouquets and floral arrangements. Frost resistance is high. This hydrangea blooms profusely from July to September.

How to Plant - Hydrangea (Hortensia) Little Lime

Hydrangea (Hortensia) Little Lime

Hydrangea planting instructions and tips

  • Choose a suitable location: Hydrangeas prefer partially shaded areas with well-draining soil. Avoid planting them in areas with full sun or where the soil remains constantly wet.

  • Prepare the soil: Dig a hole that is twice as wide and deep as the root ball of the hydrangea plant. Mix in some compost or well-rotted manure to enrich the soil and improve its drainage.

  • Plant the hydrangea: Gently remove the plant from its container and place it in the center of the hole. The top of the root ball should be level with the surrounding soil. Backfill the hole with the soil mixture and lightly tamp it down.

  • Water the plant: Give the newly planted hydrangea a deep watering to settle the soil around the roots. Water it regularly, especially during hot and dry weather.

  • Mulch around the plant: Apply a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture in the soil and suppress weeds.

  • Care for the plant: Hydrangeas require regular care, including pruning, fertilizing, and pest control. Follow the recommended guidelines for your specific hydrangea variety to ensure its optimal growth and health.
