Iris Germanica (Bearded Iris) ‘Night Edition’ is a dramatic bearded iris variety selected for deep, dark-toned blooms and a bold, contemporary garden effect. Large, ruffled flowers rise on upright stems above sword-like foliage, making it a strong choice for sunny borders, gravel gardens, and mixed perennial beds, with stems that also cut well. The near-black colouring creates striking contrast alongside pale perennials and silver-leaved plants, helping planting schemes look sharper and more modern.
The plant grows to a height of 80–90 cm (31–35 inches) and produces large, ruffled flowers with a diameter of about 10–15 cm іn very dark purple to near-black tones that can shift with light and season. Upright, sword-like foliage forms tidy clumps that keep the planting structured and clean-edged through the growth period. Flowering is typically from late spring to early summer, adding a moody accent just as the main border season begins. Iris germanica performs best in full sun in well-drained soil, with rhizomes set shallow (top at or slightly above soil level) and clumps divided every 3–4 years to maintain vigour and flowering.
