Product Description - Iris hollandica Montecito
The Iris hollandica 'Montecito' is a stunning Dutch iris celebrated for its large, classically shaped blooms in a sophisticated combination of pure white standards and rich golden-yellow falls, accented by a small orange-yellow blotch. This striking contrast gives the flowers a fresh, luminous, almost glowing appearance that stands out beautifully in spring gardens.
The slender, sword-like foliage emerges early, followed by strong, straight stems that carry 2–3 flowers each in mid to late spring (May–June). 'Montecito' is perfect for borders, cutting gardens, or naturalizing in sunny spots, and its long, long-lasting blooms make it one of the best Dutch irises for bouquets.
A true spring highlight — the combination of crisp white and sunny yellow brings pure elegance and sunshine to the early-season garden.

How to Plant - Iris hollandica Montecito
Planting & Care Instructions
Dutch irises are elegant spring- to early summer-flowering bulbs ideal for garden borders, pots and cut flower arrangements. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for high-quality bulbs.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground freezes. Flowering time generally occurs from May to June.
- Position & soil: Choose a full sun position. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For Dutch iris bulbs, size 8+ cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
- Watering: Water once after planting to settle the soil. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
- After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Dutch irises are winter-hardy perennials that can naturally return and bloom year after year when left in suitable growing conditions.
