Product Description - Liatris (spicata) Alba
Appearance
Liatris Alba (Liatris Alba) is a valuable perennial, rhizomatous herbaceous plant. The height of the stems reaches 80cm. The stems are heavily leafy. The leaves are lily-like, pointed and arranged alternately. Flowering lasts 35-40 days, in early or mid-summer. The flowers are in a basket, tubular white. The baskets are small, up to 1 cm in diameter, consisting of 8-13 flowers, which are collected in a spike-shaped inflorescence reaching a length of up to 35 cm. The involucres of the baskets are arranged in 2-3 rows.
Flowering period
Flowering appears at the top of the inflorescence, gradually spreading downwards. Bears fruit. The achenes are oblong, covered with hairs and ribbed. The plant is light-loving. During dry periods, abundant watering is required. Before frost, the flower stalks are cut off at the root and only the tubers are left in the ground. This plant overwinters well even without shelter, with slight mulching with humus.
Main Features
This plant is most often used for arranging bouquets in winter. The rich, pleasant color of the flowers lasts well for several years. Also used for mixborders, as well as borders, in alpine and rocky gardens, for forcing and further cutting.
