Lily (Lilium) Arabian Knight
Lily (Lilium) Arabian Knight - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Lily (Lilium) Arabian Knight
It belongs to the Martagon Lily group (Lily of the Curly Lily). Its name translates as 'Arabian Knight'. We are pleased to offer you this magnificent lily, which likes to grow in the penumbra and is very attractive to butterflies. When you gaze at the exquisite flowers it will seem as if they're floating in the air.
Appearance
The Arabian Knight Lily has beautiful and unusual fragrant inflorescences of a dark red wood colour with bright yellow markings and large purple mottling. They tower on tall, strong stems typical of Martagon varieties. The inflorescence is topped with distinctive 'turkscap' flowers. Each flower has an almost perfect shape. This means that the petals are curved backwards, 'revealing' the petal spots and anthers. The waxy flowers are medium-sized, about 10 cm in diameter. They open in early summer. They are attractively coloured, turbulent in shape and all facing downwards. The bright colour is complemented by a delicate pattern of dark burgundy speckles, which is perfect. The strong stems, which are not affected by winds, are another advantage of this lily. This variety is one of the most reliable garden lilies. It pairs well with the species Lilium Hansonii, whose yellow tone perfectly complements the deep reddish-brown colour of the Arabian Knight variety. A group of lilies called

Martagon hybrids have been derived from several reliable species such as L. martagon and hansonii. Most of the forms are fragrant. In nature, Martagon lilies always grow in soil that is moist with simultaneous access to oxygen and well-drained. The substrate should provide the bulbs with conditions for favourable root development. Soil that is too moist and cold can lead to rotting. The soil in which lilies grow should be humus-rich and permeable, supplemented with peat. While most lilies require a slightly acidic substrate with a pH of 5.5 to 65, Martagon lilies prefer an alkaline soil with an acidity index of 6 to 7. Marthagon hybrids are unpretentious in care and do not get sick. Like its parents, the Arabian Knight lily is long-lived and grows easily in suitable conditions (semi-shade, mimic woodland). It also does well in full sun. Its temperature tolerance is high: It withstands temperature falls as low as -37.2 °C. Flowering period: early to late summer. The plant will be approximately 100 cm tall and 30 cm wide. In the garden it should ideally be placed at the back of borders, in mixed gardens or in a separate bed. Suitable for growing in pots and tubs. Planted in the same area as daffodils and tulips, it will 'stretch' spring flowering into summer. The lily should be covered for the first year after planting.
