Product Description ( Lilium Henryi )

The orange flowers with dark spots are eye-catching. A species of lily that belongs to section 9 of the International Classification. It is honoured to bear the name of the Irish plant collector A. Henry (1857-1930) as he was the first European to find the plant.

Appearance
The plant is native to China, in areas with rainy summers and dry autumns. Its habitat is mountainous slopes: among shrubs on limestone cliffs, often in the shade on humus-rich soils, up to 1100 m above sea level. It grows up to 1.8 m. Its growth rate is medium. Its flowers are gathered in inflorescences of 15 to 20! They are drooping, in warm orange tones with a fine mottled maroon colour and a thin maroon border, also maroon in colour. The perianth is chapel shaped. "Petals" are embossed: with numerous branched "papillae" from the centre to the middle of the flower. They are also strongly twisted backwards. The flowers are about 7 cm in diameter. The anthers are dark brown. The flowers exude a lovely fragrance. The flower-bearing stem is curved, with numerous stem roots. The leaves are long (10-20 cm), oblong-lanceolate, glossy, leathery textured and dark green. This species is very hardy and frost hardy.

Store lily bulbs in a frost-free cellar or in the refrigerator on the bottom shelf until planting. Flowering period: August to September. This variety has been awarded the Award of Garden Merit by the Royal Horticultural Society.
