Lily (Lilium) Manitoba Morning
Lily (Lilium) Manitoba Morning - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Lily (Lilium) Manitoba Morning
Manitoba Morning lily (Martagon hybrid lily, 'L. martagon x 'Manitoba Morning'). New! The martagon lily or curly lily 'Manitoba Morning' captivates with its beauty! It is of hybrid origin.
The drooping, large red flowers are breathtaking. But in fact, the flower is not pure red, but a deep purple-pink with yellow and purple specks. Light spotting emphasises the centre of the catkins. A stately and very fragrant lily!
Appearance
The petals are waxy, effectively curved backwards, "revealing" the spots on the petals and red anthers. The flowers themselves are turban-shaped and all face downwards. They are medium in size, about 7 cm in diameter. There are up to 30 of them. The flowers are decorated with a strong stem, up to 110 cm high. They bloom in July and August. Strong peduncles that are not afraid of winds are another advantage of this lily.
- Flower colour: purple-pink
- Flower diameter: about 7 cm
- Plant height: up to 110 cm
The Manitoba Morning lily likes to grow in partial shade and is very attractive to butterflies. It can also grow in full sun, but not as successfully. Like its parents, this lily is durable and easy to grow in suitable conditions (partial shade, imitating a forest). Do not forget to mulch the soil around the plant for the first year after planting. The frost resistance is high - this lily can withstand temperatures down to -37.2°C. It does not like to be disturbed for many years (in this it resembles peonies). In the first year after transplanting, it refuses to bloom. The best time to move a climbing lily is when it is in full bloom.
