Product Description - Lily (Lilium) Curitiba

Lily (Lilium) Curitiba

Excellent characteristics:

The Curitiba lily is a classic Asian lily that is one of the first to bloom.

It is named after a city in Brazil. Curitiba (port. Curitiba) is a city in southern Brazil, 90 kilometers from the Atlantic Ocean, the administrative center of Paraná.

This is one of the dwarf varieties that was bred primarily for growing in pots.

But it is also unique and valuable in the garden. For example, the plant looks better when it is in a group planting in the foreground in the flower garden and rock garden, as well as in the border.

It is also suitable for forcing greenhouse conditions (forcing period: slow).

Flowers appear on the plant 60-70 days after planting.

The height of flower stalks is 50-60 cm.

The flowers are medium-sized, up-facing, simple, and six-petaled.

Their shape is cup-shaped.

Their color is cream with maroon spraying around the center (as if painted with an airbrush). In addition, the edges of the petals are marked with the same burgundy color.

The leaves are thick, glossy, small, and deep green. Densely cover the shoots.

This lily has a very high frost resistance: it can withstand temperatures down to -40 ° C.

Flowering time - early summer.

Asian hybrids are lilies with high resistance to soil and climatic conditions and well tolerate cold winters. Their essential feature is a variety of colors. Here you can see pure lilies, bright colors, and variations of pastels, as well as two-color and variegated. This group unites species found in Asia, which were later crossed with each other. It includes the lily hybrids most resistant to disease - hence, they are highly valued by flower growers and widely grown.

Another important consideration when choosing pots is depth. All lily bulbs need at least a 10cm layer of soil above the top of the bulb to grow well and about 3cm of the ground below. Next, add another 3 cm layer on top, which means you should bury the bulbs at most 15 cm deep. Keep in mind that most miniature bulbs need these minimums. Larger bulbs require more soil on top, closer to 15 cm (if you want their stems to remain strong during their maturity).

In a container with a diameter of 15 cm and a height of 25 cm, you can plant 1-3 bulbs of the same lily variety and different ones. To get abundant flowering, add a slow-release fertilizer during planting, or feed the plant with a liquid fertilizer every two weeks during flowering. Lilies love nutrients as much as they love moderate moisture during growth. So remember that pots have limited resources. So, for example, a lily bulb of size 14/16 forms 7-9 buds.

Lily (Lilium) Curitiba

Guide and tips for plantinglilium(lily) bulbs

  • Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.

  • Dig a hole that is 2-3 times deeper than the height of the bulb.

  • Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.

  • Place the bulb in the hole with the pointed end facing up.

  • Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb.

  • Water the soil until it is evenly moist.

  • Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.

  • Water the bulb regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.

  • As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.

  • After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
