Contado Winter onion is an early onion variety that is planted in winter. Developed in the Netherlands. It tolerates frosts well. It gives early shoots in spring. It belongs to the early varieties that ripen by the first half of summer. It is unpretentious to the choice of soil and resistant to diseases and pests. Ripe bulbs are well stored in a cool, dry place. The onions are juicy, with a slightly pungent taste, and are good for both salads and hot dishes.
Appearance of Contado Winter onions
Contado onions have a slightly elongated shape and are distinguished by their skin that dries quickly.
The ripe fruit has the following features:
- bronze colour of the dried skin;
- pleasant spicy taste;
