Peony Big Ben (Double)
Peony Big Ben (Double) - flower bulbs and perennial plants from Holland
Product Description - Peony Big Ben (Double)
The Big Ben peony is a very popular variety among gardeners. It grows to a height of up to 90 cm and its carmine red flowers are up to 18 cm in diameter.
It blooms for 8 to 10 days in May-June in full-bodied, red, swollen florets.
While magnificent, it is frost-resistant and requires little care. Its fragrance is very strong and pleasant. Big Ben peony likes sunshine and should be planted in well-cultivated soil. If you prepare the planting place correctly, lay out a drainage of fine gravel and brick crumbs at the bottom of the hole, the plant will take root well and the first couple of years will do without fertilizers. The best planting time is from September to April.

How to Plant - Peony Big Ben (Double)
Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
-
Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
-
Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
-
Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
-
Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
-
Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
-
Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
-
Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
-
Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
-
As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
-
After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
