Product Description - Peony Callies Memory (ITOH )
Peony Callie's Memory, an exquisite Itoh hybrid introduced in 1999 by the innovative breeder Roger F. Anderson, is a heartfelt tribute that captures the warmth and vibrancy of cherished memories in every petal. This intersectional masterpiece—born from the union of a herbaceous garden peony and a tree peony—unveils large, semi-double flowers measuring 6–8 inches across, emerging in a soft, light apricot-blush cream hue that evokes the tender glow of a sunset reflection on calm waters. As the blooms mature, they transition to a luminous creamy yellow, with striking maroon-red flares radiating from the heart and delicate picotee edges adding a subtle, artistic contrast, creating a dynamic palette of apricot, pink, and copper tones that shift beautifully with the light and season. The loosely layered petals, lightly ruffled for an airy elegance, surround a cluster of golden stamens that enhance the flower's radiant depth, while a gentle, sweet fragrance with hints of citrus and spice wafts through the air, inviting pollinators and evoking the nostalgia of a family garden in full bloom. With up to 50 prolific flowers per mature plant, Callie's Memory delivers an extended show of color and charm, making it an irresistible choice for those seeking a blend of rarity, emotion, and effortless sophistication in their landscapes or arrangements.
The practical excellence of Peony Callie's Memory shines as brightly as its petals, offering gardeners a hardy, low-maintenance performer that elevates any setting with its vigor and versatility. Its sturdy, upright stems, reaching 70–90 cm, inherit the woody resilience of its tree peony lineage, providing unyielding support for the generous blooms through rain, wind, or early summer heat without the need for staking, ensuring a pristine display in USDA zones 3–8. Thriving in full sun to partial shade with fertile, well-drained soils enriched with organic matter, this hybrid demands moderate watering during establishment but proves remarkably drought-tolerant and resistant to pests and diseases once settled, promising decades of reliable beauty. The lush, dissected dark green foliage—emerging with bronzy-red tinges in spring and subtly warming in autumn—forms a compact, bushy mound up to 80–100 cm wide, offering year-round structure and seasonal interest that complements modern, cottage, or memorial gardens. Ideal for vibrant mixed borders, as a long-lasting focal point in bouquets with 6–7 days of vase life, or as a poignant accent in personalized landscapes, Peony Callie's Memory infuses spaces with a sense of joyful remembrance and radiant warmth, creating an atmosphere of enduring grace and heartfelt enchantment wherever it flourishes.

How to Plant - Peony Callies Memory (ITOH )
Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
-
Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
-
Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
-
Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
-
Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
-
Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
-
Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
-
Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
-
Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
-
As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
-
After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
