Product Description - Peony Sequestered Sunshine (And.) (ITOH )
Peonies are garden royalty, cherished for their timeless elegance, durability, and splendid blooms that return yearly with minimal care. These perennials thrive in diverse climates, offering opulent, fragrant flowers that transform romantic, modern, or vibrant gardens into havens of beauty and serenity.
The Peony Sequestered Sunshine, an Itoh hybrid introduced in 1999 by Roger F. Anderson, radiates the warmth of hidden sunlight through its exceptional yellow blooms. Large, single to semi-double flowers (5–7 inches across) shine in bright canary yellow, with flared petals surrounding a ring of golden-yellow stamens and red stigmas for striking contrast, evoking golden rays piercing a secluded glade. A light, sweet fragrance adds charm, while up to 50 prolific blooms ensure a midseason show lasting 2–3 weeks. Its vigorous growth and long stems make it ideal for borders or cut flowers.
This hybrid is as practical as it is beautiful. Sturdy, rigid stems (76–91 cm) support blooms without staking, thriving in USDA zones 3–8. It prefers full sun to light shade and well-drained, fertile soil, becoming drought-tolerant and pest-resistant once established. The deeply dissected, dark green foliage forms a dense, rounded mound (up to 120 cm wide), with red tinges in spring and autumn for year-round appeal. Perfect for mixed borders, vases (7–10 days vase life), or shrub-like accents, 'Sequestered Sunshine' infuses spaces with radiant joy and timeless grace.

How to Plant - Peony Sequestered Sunshine (And.) (ITOH )
Guide and tips for planting peony plants and bulbs
-
Choose a sunny spot in your garden with well-draining soil.
-
Dig a hole that is 2-3 times wider than the diameter of the peony bulb or root and deep enough to accommodate it comfortably.
-
Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
-
Place the peony bulb or root in the hole with the "eyes" (small buds) facing up and the crown (thickened stem base) no more than 1-2 inches below the soil surface.
-
Fill the hole with soil and gently firm the soil around the bulb or root.
-
Water the soil until it is evenly moist.
-
Cover the area with a layer of mulch to help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
-
Water the plant regularly, making sure not to let the soil dry out completely.
-
As the plant grows, provide support to the stem to prevent it from bending or breaking.
-
After the flowers have faded, cut the stem off at the base and continue to care for the plant by watering it regularly and providing it with full sun or partial shade.
