Product Description - Red Currant Rondom
Red Currant ‘Rondom’ is a reliable, late-season redcurrant valued for its heavy crops of glossy red berries carried on long trusses for easy picking. The fruit has a classic tangy-sweet redcurrant flavour that’s perfect for jams, jellies, sauces, baking, and freezing, while also adding a bright garnish to summer desserts. Because it ripens later than many varieties, it’s ideal for extending the soft-fruit season in kitchen gardens and allotments. The neat, productive shrub also fits well into mixed edible borders and can be grown as a bush or trained as a cordon.
The plant typically grows to a height of 150 cm (59 inches) and forms a sturdy, branching shrub that produces generous clusters of berries in mid to late summer. ‘Rondom’ performs best in full sun to light shade in fertile, well-drained soil and benefits from consistent moisture during flowering and fruit set for good berry size. Mulch annually to conserve moisture and support steady growth, and protect ripening trusses from birds with netting if needed. Prune in winter to maintain an open framework and encourage productive young wood, which helps keep crops high and harvesting simple.
