Japanese spirea "Dart's Red" is a beautiful flowering ornamental low-growing shrub.
Appearance
The crown is round, 60-80 cm in diameter. Leaves are lanceolate, green (reddish when blooming), 8 cm long, and 1.5 cm wide. In autumn, the leaves turn orange, red, or dark red. Flowers are pale to dark purple-pink, small, and 8-9 mm in diameter. Many flowers are collected in umbrella-shaped inflorescences that densely cover the shoots. Japanese spirea "Dart's Red" blooms in July, but re-flowering is possible at the end of summer. After the first wave of flowering, faded inflorescences should be cut off. Every few years, the bush needs anti-aging pruning. In autumn or early spring, cut the shrub into a stump, leaving up to 30 cm from the soil surface.

Spireas have high frost resistance. They can grow even in large cities, having high resistance to polluted air. They bloom profusely only in sunny areas. It does not have high requirements for the soil, but it still grows and develops better on rich, well-fertilized soils. Before you start planting spirea, prepare the ground. Add to the planting hole a pre-prepared soil mixture consisting of the garden or leafy soil, compost, peat, and sand in a ratio of 2: 1: 1: 1. If you plant spirea in poor soil, it will also grow, but the flowering will not be bright and abundant.
