How to Plant
Thuja planting instructions and tips
-
Choose a spot in your garden that receives full sun to partial shade and has well-draining soil.
-
Dig a hole that is two to three times wider than the root ball of the thuja plant and slightly shallower than the height of the root ball.
-
Mix some compost or other organic matter into the soil at the bottom of the hole.
-
Remove the plant from its container and gently loosen any tangled or circling roots.
-
Place the thuja plant in the hole and backfill with soil, making sure the plant is level and straight.
-
Tamp down the soil gently to remove any air pockets.
-
Water the plant thoroughly, making sure the soil is evenly moist.
-
Add a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and suppress weeds.
-
Water the plant regularly, especially during the hot and dry summer months.
-
Prune the plant in late winter or early spring to maintain its shape and encourage dense growth.
