Product Description - Tulip Argos
The Tulipa 'Argos' is an elegant, mid-season Triumph hybrid whose unique, delicate lavender-purple hue evokes the very essence of spring and femininity. The closed bud displays a rich violet-lavender color, opening into a classic goblet-shaped bloom with dense, satiny petals. A fresh, light fragrance adds an extra sensory touch, making this variety a wonderful choice for both garden display and professional forcing.
Compact and sturdy, 'Argos' reaches a height of around 45 cm, with strong stems that support the goblet-shaped blooms beautifully — ideal for cut-flower production and holiday forcing programs.
Forcing Guide
'Argos' is well-suited for indoor forcing, whether by hydroponics or in a substrate mix of soil, river sand, and sawdust (ratio 1:1:1). Bulbs require cooling at +9°C for a minimum of 16 weeks before forcing can begin, with the earliest forcing start around December 20. Rooting takes approximately 16 weeks. During the forcing period, gradually raise the room temperature to +12°C and slightly higher, water with a calcium nitrate solution to support healthy green growth, and extend the light period using grow lamps. Bulb-specific fertilizers can be applied according to the manufacturer's recommendations.

How to Plant - Tulip Argos
Planting & Care Instructions
Tulips are hardy spring-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and balcony boxes. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for each tulip type.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Flowering time varies by type and variety, generally from March to May.
- Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard garden tulips, size 11/12 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart. For botanical tulips, size 6/8 cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
- Watering: Water moderately after planting, especially when the soil is dry. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
- After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Botanical tulips are particularly suitable for naturalising and can multiply and flower for many years when conditions are suitable. Garden tulips may also return in following seasons, although flowering performance depends on the variety and growing conditions.
