Product Description - Tulip Callahan
The Tulipa 'Callahan' is an exclusive, luxuriously beautiful variety, captivating with its refined palette and intricate texture. The blooms combine the lush fullness of a multi-layered peony form with the delicacy of needle-fine fringe adorning the edge of each petal, resembling sugar crystals or exquisite lace. The coloring is remarkably sophisticated and unconventional: a soft pastel-terracotta base blends smoothly into warm salmon, pink, and copper-apricot tones. This watercolor-like combination creates a cozy inner glow that shifts in intensity depending on the angle of the sunlight.
The plant produces thick, rigid, and strong stems that flawlessly support the massive, densely packed blooms, keeping them from drooping after spring rain. The resilient blue-green foliage forms a neat rosette at the base, creating a rich, graphic backdrop for these elegant flowers. The blooms also carry a fragrance, adding a further sensory dimension.
'Callahan' is an ideal choice for creating refined pastel compositions and gentle, romantic accents in the front and middle rows of formal beds, borders, mixed plantings, and pathway edges. It looks most impressive in dense groups of 10–15 bulbs, forming lush clouds of dusty pink and terracotta against spring greenery. It pairs beautifully with white and cream double daffodils, contrasting blue grape hyacinths, and other dark (burgundy, purple) or light pastel tulip varieties. Thanks to its sturdy stems and compact size, this variety also thrives in decorative pots, containers, and balcony boxes. Florists prize these luxurious, lace-like blooms for cutting — in spring bouquets they look remarkably rich and exclusive, holding their freshness in a vase for a long time.

How to Plant - Tulip Callahan
Planting & Care Instructions
Tulips are hardy spring-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and balcony boxes. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for each tulip type.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Flowering time varies by type and variety, generally from March to May.
- Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard garden tulips, size 11/12 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart. For botanical tulips, size 6/8 cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
- Watering: Water moderately after planting, especially when the soil is dry. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
- After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Botanical tulips are particularly suitable for naturalising and can multiply and flower for many years when conditions are suitable. Garden tulips may also return in following seasons, although flowering performance depends on the variety and growing conditions.
