Product Description - Tulip Caracas
The Tulipa 'Caracas' is an incredibly expressive, sunny, and festive variety, radiating the energy of a true tropical carnival. Its huge, globe-shaped blooms are made up of countless satiny petals, densely packed into a luxurious peony-like cup. The coloring is mesmerizing in its fiery palette: a hot orange center blends smoothly into rich copper-terracotta and coral-red tones toward the base of the outer petals. This complex watercolor gradient creates a remarkable inner glow, especially striking under bright spring sunlight.
The plant produces thick, rigid, and remarkably sturdy stems that flawlessly support the large, heavy blooms, keeping them from drooping after heavy May rain or wind. The resilient blue-green foliage, with a light matte waxy finish, forms a neat rosette at the base, creating a rich graphic backdrop for these blazing blooms.
'Caracas' is a superb choice for creating vibrant, festive accents and warm, sunny compositions in the front and middle rows of mixed borders, formal beds, and pathway plantings. It looks most striking in dense groups of 10–15 bulbs, where the fiery blooms glow against fresh spring grass. It pairs beautifully with white and cream double daffodils, contrasting blue grape hyacinths, and other dark (purple, burgundy) or light pastel tulip varieties. Thanks to its compact size and remarkably sturdy stems, this variety also thrives in decorative containers, pots, and balcony boxes for patios and terraces. These luxurious peony-like flowers are also favorites for cutting — in spring bouquets they look remarkably striking and hold their freshness in a vase for a long time.

How to Plant - Tulip Caracas
Planting & Care Instructions
Tulips are hardy spring-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and balcony boxes. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for each tulip type.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Flowering time varies by type and variety, generally from March to May.
- Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard garden tulips, size 11/12 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart. For botanical tulips, size 6/8 cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
- Watering: Water moderately after planting, especially when the soil is dry. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
- After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Botanical tulips are particularly suitable for naturalising and can multiply and flower for many years when conditions are suitable. Garden tulips may also return in following seasons, although flowering performance depends on the variety and growing conditions.
