Product Description - Tulip Limerick

Tulip Limerick

The Tulipa 'Limerick' is an incredibly spectacular and cheerful double-flowering tulip that captivates with its ""hot"" color and luxurious peony-like structure. Its massive, spherical buds consist of multiple layers of silky petals, creating an exceptional three-dimensional volume. The warm red-orange hue sparkles under the sun with juicy coral and golden-terracotta shades, as if hot coals are smoldering inside each flower.

Reaching a height of 40–50 cm, 'Limerick' forms thick, rigid, and surprisingly sturdy stems that reliably hold its heavy blooms, preventing them from bending during spring rains or strong winds. This hardy and low-maintenance variety is perfect for creating vibrant, sunny accents in garden beds, borders, and even decorative containers on patios. Additionally, these peony-like flowers are highly popular for professional cut bouquets, as they maintain their shape and freshness for a long time.

How to Plant - Tulip Limerick

Planting & Care Instructions

Tulips are hardy spring-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and balcony boxes. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for each tulip type.

  • Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Flowering time varies by type and variety, generally from March to May.
  • Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
  • Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard garden tulips, size 11/12 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart. For botanical tulips, size 6/8 cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
  • Watering: Water moderately after planting, especially when the soil is dry. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
  • Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
  • After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
  • Returning each year: Botanical tulips are particularly suitable for naturalising and can multiply and flower for many years when conditions are suitable. Garden tulips may also return in following seasons, although flowering performance depends on the variety and growing conditions.
