Product Description - Tulip Purple Sunset
The Tulipa 'Purple Sunset' lives up to its poetic name, capturing the deep, vivid colors of an evening sky in every petal. Belonging to the prestigious Triumph class, this variety is defined by its flawless classic architecture — slender, geometric goblets made up of dense, satiny petals that hold their shape beautifully, opening slowly and resisting both sun and wind. The rich lilac-purple hue has a noble, glossy texture that shimmers with magenta highlights in the sunlight.
This medium-height, vigorous plant grows to 45–50 cm, with thick, sturdy, perfectly upright stems that easily support the lush blooms. The broad, blue-green foliage, with a light matte waxy finish, wraps closely around the stem, creating a beautiful contrast for the vivid flowers.
Renowned for its resilience, 'Purple Sunset' is one of the hardiest and most weather-tolerant Triumph varieties, standing up well to spring rain and wind while resisting viral diseases. In the garden, it's a superb choice for creating dense, bold blocks of color in borders, beds, and the front-to-mid rows of formal plantings. It looks most striking in group plantings of 15–20 bulbs and pairs beautifully with white, soft pink, or lemon-yellow tulips, as well as white daffodils and blue grape hyacinths. Thanks to its sturdy stems and excellent vase life of up to 10–14 days, this variety is a favorite for cutting, forcing, and elegant floral arrangements.

How to Plant - Tulip Purple Sunset
Planting & Care Instructions
Tulips are hardy spring-flowering bulbs ideal for garden beds, borders, pots and balcony boxes. For the best flowering results, choose a suitable location and follow the recommended planting depth for each tulip type.
- Planting time: Plant the bulbs in autumn, from September to December, before the ground becomes deeply frozen. Flowering time varies by type and variety, generally from March to May.
- Position & soil: Choose a sunny position or partial shade. Plant in loose, fertile and well-drained soil. Avoid areas where water tends to collect.
- Planting depth & spacing: Place the bulbs with the pointed end facing upwards. For standard garden tulips, size 11/12 cm, plant approximately 10–15 cm deep and 10–12 cm apart. For botanical tulips, size 6/8 cm, plant approximately 8–10 cm deep and 8–10 cm apart.
- Watering: Water moderately after planting, especially when the soil is dry. Additional watering during autumn is usually unnecessary. Avoid waterlogged soil.
- Growing in containers: Use pots or balcony boxes with drainage holes and a well-drained potting mix. Bulbs can be planted slightly closer together than in garden beds.
- After flowering: Remove faded flowers, but allow the foliage to remain until it naturally turns yellow and dies back. This allows the bulb to store energy for the following season.
- Returning each year: Botanical tulips are particularly suitable for naturalising and can multiply and flower for many years when conditions are suitable. Garden tulips may also return in following seasons, although flowering performance depends on the variety and growing conditions.
