Cymbidium (Orchid) Paddy

About Cymbidium Orchid ‘Paddy’ – Orchid and Flowers

Cymbidium Orchid ‘Paddy’ is a striking and robust variety known for its large, waxy blooms in rich shades of green with contrasting burgundy-red markings on the lip. The strong, upright flower spikes carry multiple long-lasting blooms, making it a showstopper in any indoor space or greenhouse.

How to Care for Cymbidium Orchid ‘Paddy’?

Place your Cymbidium Orchid in bright, filtered sunlight—such as near an east or west-facing window. Use a chunky, well-draining orchid mix and a pot with excellent drainage. Water thoroughly when the top of the mix begins to dry out, allowing excess to drain away. Cymbidiums prefer cooler nights (10–15°C) to initiate blooming and benefit from moderate humidity (40–60%). Feed with a balanced orchid fertilizer every 2–3 weeks during the growing season, reducing frequency in winter.

Guide and tips for orchids

  • Choose the right pot: Orchids prefer to grow in pots that are just slightly larger than their root system. Choose a pot with good drainage holes that is made of a material that allows air to circulate around the roots, such as terracotta or clay.

  • Choose the right potting mix: Orchids require a well-draining potting mix that is specifically designed for them. The mix should contain a blend of materials such as bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite.

  • Prepare the potting mix: Soak the potting mix in water for at least an hour to ensure it is evenly moist. Allow it to drain before planting the orchid.

  • Plant the orchid: Carefully remove the orchid from its existing pot and gently loosen any compacted roots. Place the orchid in the new pot and add the potting mix around it, making sure that the roots are evenly covered.

  • Water the orchid: Water the orchid thoroughly until the water drains from the bottom of the pot. Orchids prefer to dry out slightly between waterings, so allow the potting mix to become dry to the touch before watering again.

  • Provide proper care: Orchids require a humid environment and moderate light to grow well. Place the orchid in a location with indirect sunlight and provide a humidifier or pebble tray to increase humidity. Fertilize the orchid every few weeks with a specially formulated orchid fertilizer.
